Day 18 Yellowstone-Salt Lake City

Argitaratu: 08.07.2016

Today, there is not much to report. We spent almost the whole day driving. After breakfast, we headed south through Teton National Park to Jackson Hole. Then on to Idaho Falls, where there is a quite beautiful waterfall in the middle of the city to admire. We parked our camper in a side street and took a few steps on foot to take photos. Upon our return, we saw that we had parked in front of a garage where old cars were being restored. The owner gave us some cold drinks and asked if we wanted to take a look at the workshop. Of course we wanted to. What we saw there almost blew us away. There was an old Cadillac and a 1955 Porsche. Priceless and also not for sale.

The journey continued along the highway to Salt Lake City, where we once again stayed at a KOA RV park. But before that, we had a delicious dinner from the grill. Pork steaks with potato salad. By the way, the landscape changed completely again during today's drive. We started at the southern edge of Yellowstone amidst dense pine forests. We passed by wonderful lakes that strongly reminded us of Switzerland. Only no houses were to be seen. After crossing the border to Idaho, the forests made way for vast fields. Pastures and huge irrigated crop fields alternated. Many farms look a bit run down. Over the decades, the machinery has accumulated around the farms, and some of them resemble more of a junkyard than a farm. After about four hours of driving, we were back in Utah. Here, too, there are farms every few kilometers and otherwise just fields and pastures. Shortly before Salt Lake City, you can see huge corn fields. The difference in temperature was also very large today. Last night, we froze in our camper to such an extent that I had to start the heater at four in the morning. In Salt Lake City, it is still around 30 degrees at 11 o'clock in the evening. You can't really imagine that this is also a winter sports resort, where the Olympic Games took place in 2002.
