15th October 2018:
Before you read the report below, take a moment to assess me yourself. I'll give you a hint: I went up in the elevator. But did I actually jump? Or did fear stop me just before? I would be interested in your assessment. You can either send it to me or leave a comment.
Adventure continues today. I woke up for the first time at 06:30. Then again at 07:15. I couldn't sleep anymore, but I tried. Third time waking up. My phone doesn't respond. I tried to restart it. It's just dead. Only the light is constantly burning in blue. Have I overslept already? Did they even confirm my bungee jumping request or can I forget about it? No clock in the lobby. Great situation! Well, let's start the notebook to check the time. It was 08:09. Yes! Not too much oversleeping, pickup time is at half past.
At the same time, my phone restarted by itself. It's still alive! I already thought I had to spontaneously buy a new one. And that my contacts, data, etc. are lost. Two emails arrived on my phone. Bungee jumping confirmed. Should I be happy after this stress? If it hadn't worked out today, it would have been okay too. Alright, 20 minutes now for check-out and breakfast. Time is tight, but managed. You shouldn't eat too much before the jump anyway.
I was picked up with a little delay. Just me. I was the only one there. I was still pretty relaxed. They wrapped those things around my legs and attached the rope to them. And that's supposed to hold?, I thought. Then hop over to the elevator. We went up step by step. Nervousness was still manageable. But the higher up we went, the stronger my doubts got and the human defense mechanism didn't want to jump down. Arrived at the top. I was told to go to the jumping platform. I approached slowly, didn't want to look down. Too late, already happened. I breathed heavily and loudly. My body trembled from head to toe. My inner self didn't want to do it. Should I cancel and throw the money down the drain? I stood there without progress for a good five minutes.
The guide told me to close my eyes and pushed me. I was ready. Wanted to get it over with. The guy below took what felt like ages to film from below. He tortured me with waiting for at least two minutes. Then everyone was ready. He wanted to count down from three, but then just pushed me. He later apologized for that, but I think it was actually better that way. I screamed very loudly and covered my eyes. It was just so crazy. When the rope didn't tighten anymore, I opened my eyes. Underneath me the lake. All my blood had now landed in my head. Unpleasant. Completely exhausted, I held onto the extended bamboo pole. They pulled me up onto the platform. I stayed there completely knocked out for five minutes. Then I stood up and had a sip of water.
I quickly felt better. But that was crazy! Would I do it again? Probably yes. But not right away. First, watch the videos and have some ice cream. Back at the hostel, I wrote down my feelings about it. Afternoon, I went to Chiang Rai or at least I should have. After the 3.3 km walk with my luggage, I was told that the ride at 2:15 pm was already fully booked. The next available ride is at 5:15 pm. They said I had to wait. In the meantime, I typed up the texts for the blog.
Finally, we got on the bus. We immediately got stuck in the evening traffic. I was annoyed. After four hours, we finally arrived. Off to the hotel. The 8-bed room isn't so bad because there are curtains in front of the beds. Grabbed a bite to eat at the night market and then went to sleep.
