After arriving in Bangkok last night more or less in full (our suitcases wanted to stay in Kuala Lumpur for another night 😒), we started our exploration tour again this morning 😁 The first destination of the day was Wat Arun Temple. The temple originally guarded the ship entrance to the old capital Ayutthaya. It is covered with thousands of colorful decorations and mosaic stones that are hand restored at regular intervals.
Then we took our first ride in a Tuk Tuk. They are practical and cheap, but also a bit cunning as we experienced ourselves. A very helpful guard gave us a tip for two landmarks (Black Buddha and Wat Saket Mountain). He translated the short tour to a Tuk Tuk driver and we agreed on a price. So far so good... After the first stop at the black Buddha, we wanted to continue to Wat Saket, but the driver said that the temple was currently closed and we could only visit it in the afternoon. Instead, he would take us to a top tailor and we could look around there. After a long discussion, I (Marco) instructed the driver to take us immediately and as agreed to Wat Saket. Reluctantly, he agreed and we set off. But after about 10 minutes, we suddenly found ourselves back at our starting point. Unfortunately, the driver did not inform us of a reason for this. We were very disappointed - as a result, we decided not to support the Tuk Tuk drivers anymore and switch to the also very cheap taxis 😬😬 they are safer anyway 😂🚕
We continued with Wat Pho and the lying Buddha. The entire temple complex is very extensive and was built in the 17th century. The Buddha is 46m long and 15m high. In addition, there are 71 small mosaic towers called Chedi Rai in the complex.
After the visit, we had to take advantage of the bad weather program and spent the afternoon shopping - Livia's specialty 😜 - at the 140,000 square meter MBK Center.
