Waking up in Chiang Mai for the last time, we set off to have breakfast. Thanks to some great recommendations on the Internet, we found the 'Blue Diamond Breakfast Club'. It was only a 3-minute walk from our accommodation, so that's our address.
The location was really great. We found a well-maintained courtyard and a huge selection of breakfast options.
The breakfast itself was relatively expensive. We paid about 12 euros. Unfortunately, we couldn't agree with the positive comments on the Internet.... great atmosphere, lousy breakfast (even though it looks delicious)!
Anyway, we were full of energy and wanted to ride our scooters back to Chiang Rai, which is about 200 km away. So we said goodbye to our first accommodation and saddled the chickens.
We had calculated a travel time of about 4 - 4 1/2 hours, but we couldn't stick to it. At 37 degrees, we had to take frequent breaks and drink a lot. So our road trip took a whopping 6 hours. Of course, a small snack was also essential.
We have to accept the injuries of an insanely painful sunburn. And yes, we did apply sunscreen diligently! Our good sunscreen was confiscated at Frankfurt Airport, so now we have to rely on Thai sunscreen. It doesn't work!! Moreover, the question haunts us: 'Do Thai people have sweat glands'?? With an average speed of about 65 km/h, sweat was pouring out of every pore, and some Thai people even ride their scooters with a jacket. It was quite an experience.
But it was beautiful :) Thailand has a well-developed road network, and the route to Chiang was super interesting. We encountered very few tourists, and the established Thais' lack of English skills made it exciting. We passed various national parks, rice fields, and tiny villages. Unexpectedly, huge Buddha statues and the large posters of the king were always present in this country.
Even refueling was a bit different from anywhere else.
Finally, we arrived at 7:00 p.m. and checked into our new accommodation, the Baan Nukanong Guest House. It's a bit outside, quiet, and small. The room itself is spacious, but the bathroom is well, let's say, interesting....
A short power nap reinvigorated our heavy, burning bones, and we were HUNGRY! We decided to go to a restaurant in the city center, which was one of the few that was still open at this hour. We had a great meal!! We were willing to pay a little more than our budget for it. The main thing was food!
Feeling satisfied, we drove home and stopped by a supermarket on the way. After all, we wanted to try Thai sweets :) . With 2 bottles of beer and some sweets in our bags, we wrote our travel blog until 3:00 a.m. and then went to bed. We decided to sleep in!!! Without an alarm clock!! And we actually managed to get 7 hours of sleep. Now we are sitting here, it's already 4:00 p.m., and writing a new article.
Avoiding the sun a bit today is probably the best plan.
