After Switzerland, I continued on to France. My first time in France was quite exciting. The bus ride across Switzerland to Lyon took 6 hours. Once I arrived, I immediately made my way to my new Couchsurfing host. This time it was a father with his son. The 13-year-old Leo opened the door for me and immediately showed me his incredibly large Lego collection. We spent the afternoon together playing with Legos and Wii. In the evening, the father came home and we chatted until late into the night. The next morning, we slept in a bit before having a typical croissant for breakfast. After that, they wanted to show me (well, more the father than the son) Lyon. We walked for a remarkable 3 1/2 hours through Lyon, passing all the sights and into a park with giraffes and flamingos because I mentioned how much I love flamingos. We crossed the Saône with a beautiful view of the Notre Dame Basilica of Lyon into the old town. There, we found a series of small restaurants. We admired all the typical French buildings and passed by the Lyon opera house. The town hall with its fountain was also a must-see. Unfortunately, the famous Ferris wheel in front of the horse statue was not up, but just being in that square was worth it. After enjoying some ice cream, the two of them headed home, and I wanted to see the city from above, so I went up to the Notre Dame of Lyon. The church was really beautiful, but the view of Lyon was even better. This sight reminded me a little of the view from Michelangelo Square over the rooftops of Florence. There was a wonderful view over the Saône and in the distance to the Rhône. After that, we had a very delicious French meal before heading back home. Leo and I then played a round of Mario Kart and enjoyed our last evening together. The next day, I set off quite early to the next city. 🫶🏼
