Today we went hiking again. This time we went to Verdon or rather to the Verdon Gorge.
Verdon is a river and a gorge in southeastern France. The Verdon River originates in the French Alps and flows through a breathtaking gorge known as the Verdon Gorge or Gorges du Verdon.
The Verdon Gorge is about 25 kilometers long and over 700 meters deep in some places.
It was truly beautiful and everything felt enchanting and light. There were some canoe and kayak riders on the river, simply enjoying the view and the atmosphere of this breathtaking gorge with its rock formations.
We walked a 10 km circuit, basically up a part of the mountain and then back down. However, there was a small obstacle to overcome: there was a short passage where we had to go through a dark cave below the mountain. Unfortunately, this cave was filled with water. So there was no choice but to take off our shoes and walk through the dark muddy water, or keep our shoes on and get wet feet.
We chose the latter option because we could see very little and only had the light from our mobile phone camera, and we didn't want to cut our feet on any stones or shards.
At the end of the cave, we simply squeezed out our socks and soles and continued hiking for the last 1 1/2 hours with wet shoes and feet. It wasn't really bad though, because it was relatively warm.
At the end of the hike, we sat down by the shore, ate our sandwiches, and then drove home.
For the rest of the day, we spent time rescuing insects of all kinds from the pool and inaugurating the boules court. :)
