We have now arrived in Marseille. Our next accommodation is located on a courtyard of a property in the middle of Marseille. I believe it used to be the 'house' of the servants or was used as a storage area. :D
Nevertheless, it is lovingly furnished and soundproof, which Moritz finds very important for a good night's sleep.
After we went shopping, we headed to the metro to explore the city center of Marseille.
We both have to say that unfortunately we did not like it at all and felt very uncomfortable. Absolutely every, and when I say every, I mean every metro station was absolutely littered. It was horrible to see, all trash cans completely overflowing and metro tickets and other garbage were everywhere on the floor.
The city center was also extremely dirty.
As we continued towards the sea, it became slightly cleaner. After a 20-minute walk, we reached the La Major Cathedral.
It was located directly by the sea and it felt like a new civilization was emerging here. Beautiful white cobblestones were laid out everywhere, the shops were well maintained, there was a large fancy shopping center, and the buildings were clean. I think that since the ferries dock nearby, they are trying to make a better impression directly on the tourists and they are not forced to walk into the city center.
For us, however, it is clear that we will not go to the city center again, and especially not by metro. :}
We have chosen a few hiking routes in a nearby national park that we will tackle instead.
