April 29, 2021 - First day of work alone

Argitaratu: 03.05.2021

Today Nick was able to enter Switzerland.

Now I am alone here in Spain with our animals. Today we brought together 5 mares with our two. These are some of the young ladies we work with. Because this had to be done quite quickly for space reasons (cows had to go where horses usually stand and so on...), there was actually no plan B. So we brought the 5 of them to ours and then let them go together in the pasture. There they galloped around and squealed at each other... Fortunately, that went really well. Since there are many large stones in the pasture, Fly probably twisted her foot while running around. She is now walking slightly lame. Sarina takes over the lead and takes Fly with her when other horses want to go to her. We are glad that this went so well, because there are currently many dangers of injury in the stable (protruding wires, nails, etc.)

In the evening, one of the mares pushed through the fence and then they went back to the pasture. Fortunately, it was a fenced-in area... With the help of two assistants, I was able to bring the mares back in.

Since Nick is not here, everything is noticeably more laborious and cumbersome alone. Now I have to clean up 7 horses instead of 2 and the medical care of the stallions is more complicated. Then I integrated a young stallion into a group of 3 out of a group of 12. I did this alone. At first it was a bit spectacular. Fortunately, the excitement subsided quickly.

In addition to loading training and the usual, there were some other things added and I worked for about 12 hours. In the evening, a stallion was then brought in for "breeding". He is made to mount a "phantom". I was then tasked with standing near a gray mare. After the fourth unsuccessful attempt, we stopped. Maybe he just doesn't like gray horses. 🙃

The water pump in our caravan broke... That's why I have to wash all the dishes in the lab in the evening.
