Sunday, 20.8.2023, Day 34,
Today we set our alarm for 6:15 am to have an early start. And we managed. At 7:20 am we were on our bikes, it was still dark outside, the city was asleep, especially because it was Sunday morning. We comfortably and safely left Cordoba and experienced a beautiful sunrise at the city limits. Then we rode along the river, which I described sufficiently yesterday, always along the southern edge of the Sierra Morena. We were very fast and very sporty, trying to beat the heat by getting to our destination before it gets hot. We knew that by 11:00 am it should already be over 30°. And then we had another flat tire, this time the front tire on Tom's bike. This set us back a bit in terms of time because it wasn't as easy to remove the front tire since it didn't have a quick release mechanism, but rather an axle that I wasn't familiar with. In the end, we arrived in Palma de Rio at 12:00 pm, when it was already significantly over 30°. We were able to check into our accommodation from 1:00 pm in an old convent next to the Santa Clara Church. The old convent with its old walls was cool and shady, and even had a cool pool in the garden where we could cool off for half the afternoon.
And once again there was a festival in the village, no idea what the Spaniards have to celebrate, and everything was closed, no open pub, no open cafeteria, no open shop, no open restaurant. At 44° (see photo in front of the pharmacy) we stocked up on water, a cold beer, and some food at the gas station and consumed it in our air-conditioned room. Tomorrow we will continue towards Seville.
