Next Stop Slovenia: Ljubljana

The travel bug has struck again. And since sustainability is on everyone's mind, this time I decided to switch to bus and train, together with a friend.

We meet in Munich and take a Flixbus directly to the capital of Slovenia, a journey of five and a half hours. On the day of arrival, not much happens except for planning the next days (of course with a cocktail in hand), but the next day we explore Ljubljana.

A dragon is the landmark of the city, supposedly originating from the Argonauts' story, and there is no way around this symbol or almost mascot around here.

The city center is crossed by the Ljubljanica River, and its central promenades invite you to numerous cafes and restaurants - so we start with a cappuccino.

We climb up to the castle, and although we don't want to spend any money on visiting it, the view over Ljubljana from up here is worth the climb.

In the afternoon at 3:00 pm, we want to join a free tour. We still have some time and get ourselves a wonderful ice cream (order one scoop and get two, it feels like), and take it to Prešeren Square near the red church.

A huge crowd of people is already waiting here for the tour to start. According to the guides, at first two, but then a third one is called due to the high number of participants, they explain that the number of participants is constantly increasing. We were there during the week. If you want to join, you might choose the 11:00 am time slot.

The tour is informative and provides interesting insights into history and the culture of the people living here, especially for a tourist like me who arrived without any knowledge.

The tour lasts two hours, and at the end, we feel our growling stomachs and that we have been on our feet since morning. Quickly grab something to eat, wave to the castle one last time, and return to the hostel.
