Days 27 to 30 - Phu Quoc, Part 2

My last few days in Phu Quoc were not necessarily blessed by the weather gods. It rained early in the morning and sometimes in the morning as well. The rest of the day was cloudy, and only occasional sunrays broke through the clouds. So, I spent my days taking walks, visiting spas, reading, and painting.

On Monday, I waited for the rain to stop and then took the scooter to VinWonders, which was only 15 minutes away. Besides being the largest amusement park in Vietnam, VinWonders also has a water park and one of the five largest aquariums in the world.

Hoping that the sky would clear up during the morning, I visited the aquarium first. Besides numerous colorful tropical fish, there were also rays, sharks, jellyfish, and crustaceans to admire. At 11:00, I watched the mermaid show, where three women in mermaid costumes dived into the large aquarium tank and performed pirouettes.

After this beautiful journey to the depths of the ocean, I tried out the roller coasters and other rides in the amusement park. The entire park seemed well-maintained to me, and the different "worlds" that divided the park into zones were coherent and offered visitors plenty of opportunities to linger and marvel. My favorite was the roller coaster "The Wrath of Zeus," which I tried out three times. There were generally very few visitors on the premises, so I didn't have to wait anywhere.

With the temperatures rising and hoping for a few rays of sunshine in the next two hours, I went to the water park. I tested numerous water slides and enjoyed the wave pool while sitting on a large inflatable tube. Some slides required two or more people to go together. Since I was alone, I had to find someone who wanted to slide with me. Once, a Korean mother with her daughter and another time, two young Japanese girls were kind enough to let me slide with them.

After getting dry again, I also tested all three routes of the high ropes course on the Viking grounds. It was quite exhausting but also exciting. In the end, I was completely soaked in sweat, but proud that I had persevered. To cool off, I took another ride on the whitewater boat.

Before watching the closing show, I took a ride on the Ferris wheel at dusk. During the 20-minute ride, I was able to take a few more photos of the premises.

The closing show, which took place in front of the castle in the center of the park, told a fairy tale of a young man who defeated the evil witch and the dragon with the help of a phoenix. The show included light, water, and fire elements. The 20-minute performance was spectacularly made and, even if you didn't understand Vietnamese, it captivated from beginning to end.

I spent my last full day in Vietnam lazily at the beach. On the way to the airport the next day, I was caught in a downpour, but I was able to take shelter under a canopy before continuing my journey after 15 minutes. Halfway dried by the wind, I returned the scooter at 10:00 and continued my journey to Bangkok.
