Today we're going to Alta, also to visit the Northern Lights Cathedral. The rugged and impressive landscape is amplified by the winter atmosphere. The days are short, with only about 4 hours of sunlight. We have been incredibly lucky with the weather. Until yesterday, it was bad. So our sunny day in the Lofoten Islands was the first beautiful day in a month. I am amazed at the remote and inhospitable places where people live and work.Alta was completely destroyed during the German withdrawal in 1944 and later rebuilt. Therefore, except for the old wooden church, there are no original buildings here. Alta now has 20,000 inhabitants, several kindergartens, many schools, and a university.The Northern Lights Cathedral was inaugurated in 2013 and impresses with its modern architecture.
