When I wake up this morning, I actually rub sand remnants from boogieboarding out of my eyes, it seems the sandman is at home here in Hawaii.
We want to start today's day a little differently. Before breakfast, we want to go snorkeling at the so-called 'Black Rock', where we had great turtle encounters last year. It is only a 5-minute drive from us, but to escape the numerous tourists there - mostly of the Asian species - you have to show up here as early as possible, as they completely take over the beach area during the day (we always have something to laugh about, like those who show up at the snorkeling bays in full snorkeling gear including life jacket, swim noodles, and even with an umbrella in the rain, but today there are no signs of them).
But at the moment the waves here in Maui don't seem to cooperate with us, they churn up the sand already after seven o'clock so much that we don't even attempt a snorkeling. After all, we had such great underwater encounters on Big Island, which we have stored on our personal hard drives.
So let's go home and have a delicious breakfast, followed by a visit to the swimming pool, where I am also confirmed by the lifeguard that the waves here are exceptionally high at the moment.
Then two of us drive from home to a small bay, about 10 km north of our accommodation, called Honolua Bay, another and at the same time our last attempt today to go snorkeling. But even here, when we arrive, snorkelers are already on their way back and advise us not to go in.
So we end up at our 'home beach', once again we go boogieboarding, the waves are perfect for it. My boogieboard even takes on a life of its own, these waves really have power! I've never had so much sand in my hair before, it finally fled only after the second shower! But the Hawaiian sandman will surely take care of sweet dreams again!
During my boogieboarding experiences, Mom watches a surfer who conquers the waves with his dog on the board, and I only notice how both suddenly end up in the water - simply amusing. It seems that neither of them is doing this for the first time - this is better than any movie.
In the afternoon, we take a leisurely stroll through Lahaina and the local shops, and we enjoy the sunset from a narrow wall. Next to us, a fisherman is trying his luck at fishing.
While this day may not seem eventful to outsiders, we had a truly wonderful and relaxing day off, which we enjoyed to the fullest.
