Day 14 (September 14, 2020)
We set off early again today. At a quarter past nine, we were already heading towards Col des Ayes, which we reached soon after a slightly sweaty and already sunny ascent. Trees accompanied us all the way up to the pass at over 2,500 meters above sea level. This area is home to the highest tree line in Europe. Simi, Rapha, and Alex climbed the nearby summit for a little adventure before we continued our journey downhill. The weather was fantastic and the fauna was becoming more and more southern.
We had lunch by the bathing lake of a large, unused natural camping site. We took a long break and enjoyed delicious olive and nut bread from the market in Briançon.
Our path led us through Brunissard, a rather deserted and initially not very pretty village. However, the core with its old, self-repaired houses and abundant flowers had a lot of charm.
In La Chalp, Simi and Alex enjoyed a delicious beer from the delicatessen store, and we all had some nougat. Strengthened, we tackled the final ascent to Lac de Roue. We were greeted by a beautiful cathedral-like forest surrounding the lake, covered with red plants. We set up our tents in the open forest area, which offers a wonderful view of the valley.
