Vitamin D sometimes hurts - Week 4

It's Friday, February 26th, 2021. It's high time to experience something again! Said and done. Luck was definitely on our side, as we got a small upgrade for our rental car. Instead of a Toyota Yaris, we were provided with a relatively large Dacia Duster with spikes and all-wheel drive - which we were grateful for afterwards.

On the same evening, together with two students, we drove to the hot pots in Heydalur. A totally cozy spot here in the Westfjords, with a first-class restaurant and three completely different hot pots. One is outside with stones, the other is off the beaten track with a view of the mountains, and the third is in a greenhouse, surrounded by plants and equipped with a Tarzan rope. The way there and back is very beautiful and there is even a viewpoint where you can watch seals, but after the second fjord, you've had enough of driving around (see map).

On Saturday, our road trip took us in the other direction of the Westfjords, the swimming pool in Patreksfjörður was the destination. On the way there, we made a short stop at the waterfall Dynjanði/Fjallfoss - a huge waterfall, which is beautifully located in the middle of nature and has a cinematic atmosphere! Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side at that time and unfortunately, when preparing for our trip, we only thought about enough food (once again). Well, there we stood - without a rain jacket, without rain pants, and without spare clothes. Oh well, we were completely soaked - check.

Set the heater to 26°C and off we go to Patreksfjörður. The swimming pool there is completely outside and you have a beautiful view of the sea and the mountains while warming up in the hot pot. After our wet and cold adventure at Dynjandi, it came in handy and we relaxed for a while before heading to the coast. When we made a short stop on the way, it happened - the SUN came out finally! Quickly get out of the car and enjoy every second. The sun hadn't visited us for days (Petrus did not find the joke from the last blog as funny as we did), so we were all the more happy to feel some sunshine on our skin again.

Now we wanted to experience a natural hot pot in the middle of the beautiful nature. That's why we packed our already wet swimsuits and towels from the swimming pool and walked down towards the sea for about 5 minutes. The sun was shining on the horizon, but it was quite chilly due to the wind. When we arrived at the 2 pools, we were super excited to soak up some vitamin D again and couldn't wait to get into the warm water, especially after freezing on the way there. Easier said than done.....

Have you ever undressed at an outside temperature of 2°C and quite a fresh wind, just to slip into a wet and cold/n bikini/swimsuit? No?! Well, you didn't miss anything. It was almost like a high-performance sport, how quickly we changed and ran into the hot pot. Once we were in the warm water, we realized that it was worth the effort of undressing and changing - vitamin D sometimes hurts.

So there we were, in the hot pot with a view of the surrounding mountains, the endless beach where some ice floes were washed ashore, the sound of the sea, and a beautiful sunset on the horizon. A real moment of happiness, in which you are completely satisfied and grateful.

Just as we had taken some memorable pictures and enjoyed the moment, it started - big drops fell from the sky. When we turned around to see where suddenly the rain cloud came from, we saw a brightly shining rainbow and were completely thrilled by the atmosphere...until we slowly realized that our clothes were lying unprotected from the rain on a bench - thank God it stopped raining again.

On the way back, there were occasionally some stones on the road that were not there on the way there. But overall, the drive went smoothly and relatively quickly.

When our boss asked us on Monday how our weekend was and we told him where we had been, he said that next time we should leave a note in the kitchen so that people know where we are hanging out. Above all, the date is important so that they know whether it is still worth looking for us if we don't come back home. Due to the thawing weather, our drive over the mountain pass was probably not sooooo safe...but well, we're still alive =D The quote from our boss "The youth of today".
