Desert Camel Safari

Argitaratu: 11.03.2018

Now we were already in a real desert not far from the border with Pakistan.

Each on a camel, we rode through the desert landscape and enjoyed the barren but still breathtaking view from the large, rocking and beautiful animals. It's hard to believe, but two hours on such a camel can be quite exhausting for the hanging legs. Three other travelers (USA & Australia) and three camel guides were with us. They took care of us very well and first led us through a very rugged landscape with cacti to beautiful sand dunes. While we enjoyed the sunset, we drank a chaitee that was freshly cooked by the guides over the fire. We had our traditional dinner at a campfire surrounded by fog drinker beetles and some free-roaming dogs who wanted to eat with us. We spent the night in warm blankets under a starry sky directly under the Milky Way. At first, it was strange, just the thought of sleeping freely in the desert, but then it felt very comfortable in the peace and quiet. Emely's biggest fear was being licked by a dog that had previously torn an antelope and was therefore covered in blood. We named him Rambo.

Fortunately, the wild animals left us alone, except for a cheeky beetle that bit Finn on the hand.

The next morning we were awakened by the rising sun. After breakfast (our first real breakfast here in India =D), everything was packed and the camels were gathered so that we could ride back to the village.

Here we had to say goodbye to our faithful companions and were driven back to the city by jeep.

Going to Jaisalmer and visiting the desert was a decision that we are both very happy about. Riding camels and sleeping in the desert was an absolute highlight and the most beautiful experience we have had in India so far.

After much back and forth, we have now decided to travel to the south of India and postpone the trip to the north for a few weeks. First stop: Udaipur.

Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass die Ruhe und die Einsamkeit in der Wüste ein richtiger Gegenpol zu der bisherigen Hektik in den Städten für Euch war. Genießt die Zeit.
