This morning, after a delicious breakfast, I set off towards Samarkand around 10:00 AM. The landscape is now very green. Agricultural fields are visible everywhere. Fruit cultivation also seems to be widespread here. The road was mostly good, so I made good progress. I arrived at the hotel around 2:30 PM. My current accommodation is a bit outside, but very quiet. Barbara had sent me some documents that I had to take care of first. Even when traveling, there are duties that cannot be avoided.
Later, I ran some errands and ended the evening with the live broadcast of the France - Belgium game.
07/02/2024: The second day in Samarkand was dedicated to a small city tour. Initially, I only wanted to visit the Registon Maydoni, but the hostess insisted that I should also see the Gur-Emir Mausoleum and the Siyob Bazaar. So the day was largely planned. The Registon is indeed extremely impressive. Images from the past showed the regrettable condition in which the square and the buildings on it once were. Work is still being done on the mausoleum. One can see that some parts of the building are still missing. After the mausoleum, fuelled by a cappuccino, I went to the bazaar. I am always fascinated by such places. It is simply amazing to see the variety of food and spices offered here, as well as everything else needed for daily life (or not).
I had parked the motorcycle at the Registon, from where I drove back to the hotel in the afternoon. Since navigation with the phone has proven to be the best method so far, I wanted to get to the bottom of a problem that has been bothering me for a while. Although the phone is connected properly, it is not charging during the ride. I suspected the charging cable, so I quickly got a new one. Unfortunately, that didn't work. It's probably the phone itself or the combination of phone, cable, and USB port. And while I was at it, I also reattached the radiator guard, which had come loose at one point due to the various 'shake stretches'.
