Goodbye coast, we're going to Bayeux

The weather ruined our planned bike tour to Bayeux yesterday - drizzling rain with no end in sight. So we packed up and left the coast. As a precaution, we headed straight to the first museum. For nearly a millennium, the famous Bayeux Tapestry has attracted visitors from all over the world, including us. The tapestry depicts the conquest of England by William the Conqueror over a total length of 70 meters and is so well-preserved that even my cotton t-shirts are jealous.

And since the cost of visiting 2 museums was only 1 euro more than visiting one museum, my penny-pincher immediately advocated for visiting the second museum. The 'Musée mémorial de la Bataille de Normandie' portrays the Battle of Normandy in 1944, which made Bayeux the first liberated city in France. It was distressing. Grateful that I didn't have to experience such things in my life and praying that it stays that way, I quickly left. Micha found the exhibition very interesting, moving, and enlightening. We hardly see or hear any news while on the road, but in moments like these, we are reminded of the events in Ukraine... and that war is still as cruel as it was 80 years ago. So much suffering...

We strolled back to our car and drove inland, towards our dinner. We found a free parking space at a small picnic area where we could sit comfortably. There was even a table tennis table available, so we took advantage of it. While strolling through town, looking for a bakery for breakfast, I stopped in front of every real estate agent... it's not as expensive as it is back home!

Did you see the beautiful photo of my balanced hammock? The morning atmosphere was enchanting and mystical. We took a short walk (literally - it wasn't planned that way) and then drove to our campsite. A spot all to ourselves!!! ... with a dry toilet and solar shower (well... a black bag on a hook, but completely sufficient for the weather) in the heart of the Suisse Normande, the Norman Switzerland. Let's see what this 'Switzerland' has to offer.
