Mokulele Airlines

To get from big island to Maui, we decided to fly with a small airline founded by a Hawaiian woman, which exclusively operates Cessnas. The decision was absolutely right! We were greeted by a very nice lady in a small building. Actually, they were well-built containers. Neither our suitcases nor our hand luggage nor ourselves were checked, only the weight. The lady explained to us that they cannot take the bicycle, stored in a bicycle bag, with them. But she reassured us and said that we can leave it at Aloha Cargo in the adjacent building. That worked perfectly and so we could pick up the bicycle the next day at Kahului Airport on Maui.

Back to our flight. It was fantastic!! A 10-person aircraft and Mick and I were sitting in the 1st row directly behind the two pilots. Martin in the 2nd row. We flew along the west coast of big island, briefly over the open sea to then get a fantastic view of the volcano Haleakalā on Maui. Even the observatories were within reach of my superzoom camera. The aircraft did not fly as high as, for example, Hawaiian Airlines, which also operates this route. We could see Maui from above and I was really sad when the plane landed after 40 minutes. I would have liked to see a bit more from above. Besides, it is absolutely an experience to fly with such a small aircraft! But there was a consolation, we were finally on MAUI 🙂
