Little Corn Island

Argitaratu: 18.12.2017

The journey is adventurous. There is almost no security check at the airport, the plane has free seating and we are quickly boarded. In the tiny plane we go to Corn Island - the big sister of our destination island Little Corn Island. The flight is quite turbulent, which makes Kathrin and other screaming ladies on the plane break into a cold sweat.

From the plane, we go directly to a one-hour ferry ride to the small island. Before the boat ride (again in a nutshell), plastic bags are distributed with the note that it could get wet. That is an understatement and an hour later we arrive soaking wet on Little Corn Island.

Little Corn Island is a stark contrast to the mainland of Nicaragua. The small island with around 800 inhabitants is located in the Caribbean and the residents predominantly speak Creole English. The atmosphere is typical Caribbean, so you quickly forget that you are still in Nicaragua.

We want to go kiting here and have rented accommodation on the less touristy side of the island directly at the potential kite spot.

We want to use the upcoming calm day for diving. Since Lukis' last dive was about 18 years ago, we take a refresher course before we start diving. The underwater world - especially the animal world - in front of LCI is fascinating. We see lobsters, stingrays, lionfish, and nurse sharks. The highlight is a herd of dolphins that visit us when we resurface.

After the rather quiet diving day with 2 dives, the predicted storm comes the next day. All tourists still on the island now have to spend the next 4 days on the island, as the captain of the nutshell stops the ferry service. We enjoy being on the water and the strong wind. On the penultimate day, it is calm again and we do another dive before we return to Corn Island at 5:30 a.m. on the last day and from there back to Playa Maderas via Managua. Fortunately, this flight is much calmer.

Es sieht fast so aus, als wolltet ihr mit dem "pups kleinen Flieger" konkurrieren!
