Today is the last day of indulgence. A day where we don't need to do much, no driving, no packing, just eating and drinking so we don't waste too much. Take another bath, enjoy the sun and listen to the audiobook by Michael Mittermeyer. Just one more episode! Listen to TV from A to Zapped!. We chuckled and found ourselves in many of his stories. After all, we watched the same movies and series too.
We have planned a 20-minute wine tasting at Fitzpatrick Winery at 4 pm today, followed by dinner at the winery's restaurant (19 Bistro).
The winery is beautifully located above Okanagan Lake with a breathtaking view.
We were the only guests at that time and Anneleise, our sommelier, told us a lot about the 5 wines and a sparkling wine. But not just about the wines.
She herself is of German immigrant descent and also told us a few things about that. However, she could only speak very, very, very little German. Even less than I can speak English.
Facts: Fitzpatrick is an Irish immigrant family. The winery we visited, Greata Ranch, was only purchased by the Fitzpatick family in 1994. Before that, they used to grow fruits like peaches here.
The winery has 40 hectares of vines divided into 12 smaller, carefully maintained blocks. They grow seven grape varieties in their vineyard: Chardonnay, Ehrenfelser, Gewürztraminer, Meunier, Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder, and Riesling.
The 20-minute wine tasting was over after almost an hour, and we were already a little tipsy.
So let's quickly change location and fill our stomachs.
We decided on pizza and as an appetizer, the Okanagan Charcuterie Board. Various types of salami and ham, as well as cheese, cherries, roasted almonds, a cherry chutney, and a honey mustard sauce.
Here, the pizza is elegantly cut with scissors,
not like with a plain old pizza cutter like ours.
We will end our last evening in this amazing area with a swim in the lake and an Aperol Spritz.
