Die Great Ocean Road - im Nebel

Argitaratu: 19.11.2023

The Great Ocean Road is, as the name suggests, a Great Ocean Road 😉. It starts southwest of Melbourne and is 243km long. I now have two days to drive this road on the coast. I have a rental car again and am driving out of Melbourne. A Melbourne curiosity is that to turn right you have to drive into the left lane 🤷🏼‍♀️. Sounds strange, looks strange too - but somehow it works...

Driving out of the city immediately becomes more relaxed and when I get to the coast, I see the first stops - but I miss them. And when I stop, the fog starts to roll in. The cliffs are covered in fog. I can see a little bit, but not very far, but it's not worth taking photos. Good, then I don't have to stop everywhere and just use the view from the windshield. You can't drive fast here anyway and the Great Ocean Road is prepared for a lot of tourists, because every few meters there is a sign that warns graphically and in writing that people drive on the left in Australia.

In short, the fog rolls in and there is actually a layby that I use straight away and this beautiful picture was taken 😀.

Halfway through the drive there is a parking lot where you can take a short hike to a waterfall. A break from driving is good for me, so I stop and take the 20 minute tour to Sheoak Falls. The path goes past a swamp area and through a small rainforest - up and down stairs. The waterfall is small, but so beautifully located. No one is here. I'm alone with the waterfall - wonderful peace!

I got a few tips from my tour guide (from the penguin tour) about what I should definitely see, for example there is a Koala Cafe and there are actually still wild koalas on the road. Since I have to eat something at some point anyway, I stop there and actually watch two koals sleeping in their tree and showing me their bottoms 😀.
