Today there was a relatively spontaneous trip to the Secret Lagoon with Janne, who I picked up on the way. We got in for 3,600 Icelandic kroner (approx. €24). The changing rooms, showers and the building in general were relatively new and modern.
After we showered off, we went outside along a small path and into the water. The path to the water alone was quite cold, but the water was nice and warm - almost too hot at the beginning. There was only one pool, but it was quite large and apart from us there was only one couple there at the beginning. The floor was made of gravel, so it felt like you were on the beach. From one end of the pool you could see a geyser, which also "erupted" a few times. We spent most of the time sitting on the stones at the edge of the water, chatting and relaxing. We were in the water around half past twelve / one and around two / shortly after two it suddenly started to hail. At first it was very light, but the hailstones quickly became really big and sometimes really hurt if you were too far out of the water. There were significantly more people in the water at that time. At some point the hail turned into snow and we had to be careful not to get completely covered in snow. The mist that came from the hot water partially blocked the entire view, so we could hardly see the other people.
We got out of the water around three o'clock, showered and got dressed again. When we got to the car, we first had to clear the snow from it. On the way we met a German film team who wanted to film in the Secret Lagoon.
On the way back it was still snowing quite heavily, so on the one hand the road was extremely slippery and on the other hand you could only see very little in some places. After I let Janne out it didn't get any better and the only reason I knew where the road was was because of the pillars on the side. So I drove around 30 to 50 on a 90 road. Although I wasn't the only one. The people in front of me and behind me drove just as slowly and sometimes I just followed the person in front of me in the hope that they already knew where to go. I had a driving school in front of me for a good part of the route. I don't want to imagine what a driving lesson feels like in such weather. In any case, I was really happy and absolutely exhausted with my nerves when I finally arrived at the farm at half past five. But nothing happened and that's the main thing.
(And thanks to Janne for the photos. With her waterproof cell phone it was of course much easier and safer)
See you then
