Earthquake

7.1.2022 - This morning at 5:27 we were woken up by a relatively strong earthquake. The epicenter was only a few kilometers away from here. In moments like this, one feels quite vulnerable and can only hope and pray that nothing happens. Seconds and minutes can feel very long. I always marvel at what a building can withstand. So there was no damage, at least not to us.

Today, the Catholic colleague returned the visit and came over for tea. And he brought us a bottle of Pisco. After drinking tea and eating cake together, the two of them had some work matters to discuss. And Carmen (the cleaning lady from the church) also stopped by. She first told me in detail about her current health problems. And then we talked about pests. The house has to be 'fumigated' regularly against insects and moths. And it's best to do it when we're not sleeping here. So it will happen when we're not here for a few days.

Our flights to Santiago de Chile are also booked now. Let's hope everything works out and that Corona doesn't interfere. We see the German news every day. And it sounds very alarming - despite the majority being vaccinated. Slowly but surely, this is enough. I long so much for normal encounters again. But I'm sure it's the same for you.
