After Kunming, we continue by high-speed train to Guilin, which is now located in the Guangxi province, not Yunnan.
The landscape changes a lot during the journey, probably because we are no longer at an altitude of over 2000m - instead of mountains, we see rapeseed fields and karst hills everywhere. The weather also changes: it is quite humid and cold when we arrive in Guilin. However, our hotel is beautifully located by the Rong and Shan lakes - ideal for exploring Guilin without much effort. But due to the rain, we lose our interest for now. We only manage to motivate ourselves in the evening, probably because it has stopped raining and we are hungry.
There are two beautiful pagodas located by the lakes, the Sun and Moon pagodas. In the evening, these buildings and the trees around the lake are illuminated, making the atmosphere even more beautiful.
However, Guilin appears quite touristy to us, as we are approached by several restaurant touts and sellers. Therefore, after the walk, we head straight to an Indian restaurant (a change is needed) and then back to the hotel. The next morning, we have to leave at 07:40 am: despite the bad weather, we have decided to take a boat trip on the Li River to get to Yangshuo.
