We are heading towards Fox Glacier via Wanaka, passing Lake Hawea and then Lake Wanaka. The vegetation changes from shrubs and grasslands near the mountains to dense forests, rainforests, and peaks. Waterfalls are everywhere, more or less spectacular. The rivers are raging. There are still remnants of the previous day's flooding on the road. On the way to the Blue Pool, we get a first taste of the rainforest, densely covered with meter-high ferns and trees that serve as hosts for other plants. Everything looks very fantastic. A suspension bridge leads to the Blue Pool. Oh, I have to force myself to fight my fear, and I have overcome it. Ahh, very good. Waterfalls follow and after Haast, our lunch break with pie, we continue. The coastal road to Fox Glacier is full of amazing places, and seeing all of them makes the journey long to Fox Glacier Village, which is located about 250 meters above sea level and is surrounded by rainforest. The Fox Glacier (Te Moeka o Tuawe) is a valley glacier. It is fed by four alpine glaciers over its length of 13 kilometers with a height difference of 2600 meters. The glacier ends 300 meters above sea level. But the plans to have a look at it are not looking good, as rain is forecasted for the next day from early morning. Let's see. First, we have another problem. Due to the rains of the previous day, there are still problems with the internet. This means that no card payment is possible, and our dinner is limited to toasties, ham, and camembert, as we don't have enough cash. That'll do as well.....
