Thursday, 10/04 - Friday, 10/05/18:
San Diego, 1.4 million inhabitants, not far from the Mexican border.
First, we went over the Coronado Bridge to the peninsula of the same name. Here we found a very beautiful and sparsely visited sandy beach. Especially the Hotel del Coronado stood out, which has served as a film set several times (including 'Some Like It Hot' with Marylin Monroe).
After that we continued to Seaport Village, where we could admire the USS Midway, a former aircraft carrier, among other things. We strolled along the harbor for a while and reached Gaslamp Quarter in the afternoon, the party mile of the city, where we stayed until 10:00 PM.
The next day we went on to Point Loma, which was located at the entrance to the bay of San Diego. In 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo landed here as the first European. From here we had a beautiful view of the city.
We then went to the Old Town, supposedly the birthplace of California. The partly over 150-year-old houses contained all kinds of different traders. Overall, we both agreed that it is a place worth visiting, but not necessarily a must-see if you only have 2 full days in San Diego.
Finally, we made a detour to Balboa Park. Unfortunately, the Visitor Center was already closed, so we just strolled around aimlessly. It was getting dark, so unfortunately we didn't get any further impressions of the park. However, it seems that a slightly longer stay there is definitely worth seeing.
Before we returned to our accommodation, we made a stop at Grand Ole BBQ. In the evening, we went to the in-house pool and hot tub. Super pleasant!
