Berlin Botanical Garden and DDR Museum

Avaldatud: 02.08.2020

On our last day in Berlin, the day started more relaxed at breakfast compared to the previous day, as more seats were open and a dedicated security guard was guarding the breakfast buffet.

Despite a less than optimal weather forecast, we headed to the Botanical Garden, one of the largest botanical gardens in Germany with around 22,000 different plant species.

Unfortunately, we couldn't see all of these because the greenhouses were closed to visitors due to the Corona Virus.

The museum was also closed, but we were able to visit the outdoor areas.

Along the way, we also encountered some animal residents: several squirrels crossed our path, and we even saw a fox, who, however, hid in the bushes from the walkers.

Unfortunately, the rain started in the morning, and when we arrived at the swamp plants, it was quite wet from above.

Nevertheless, we continued with an umbrella and raincoat through the Medicinal Plant Garden and the Arboretum back to the entrance. From there, we took the bus towards the center.

We traveled in an almost empty bus and were even able to secure the front seat in the double-decker. We stayed there until the final stop at Mohrenstraße, which was unfortunately not announced. So we only realized it was time to get off when the engine was turned off. Unfortunately, the bus driver was quicker, and when we went downstairs, he had already left the bus, and we were trapped. While we were still on the phone with a nice BVG man to get out of the bus, he came back and greeted us with, 'What are you doing in my bus?'. So after he opened the door, we quickly continued and arrived without any further incidents on Museum Island with the next bus.

We lined up in the queue in front of the DDR Museum, which we wanted to visit next. After a while, we were able to see the exhibition on the life and history of the GDR.

Finally, we went back to the Nikolaiviertel to taste a traditional Berlin dish in a restaurant: currywurst with fries.
