Siem Reap Day 7

Avaldatud: 12.11.2018

New day, new adventure. Maren seemed to have recovered from her sunstroke and breakfast was quickly devoured. Due to the longer drive, we went with our guide who had already taken us through Angkor by car, 50 km outside of Siem Reap this time. Destination: River of a Thousand Lingas, a Buddha carved in the rocks, and a splash in the waterfall to finish. On the way, our first accident in Asia. Rest in peace little chicken! Nothing could be done. Our driver was not to blame. After an endless drive through the Cambodian jungle. First milestone reached: River of a Thousand Lingas is interesting to look at but not a wow effect. Brief explanation: Lingas are needed to produce holy water in Hindu belief. Instead of employing a monk to pour water over the Lingas, a few thousand of them were simply smashed into the river hundreds of years ago. Done, holy water. A few Indians were present when we arrived, they were washing or something. We then continued up the mountain to the reclining Buddha. Nearly 1000 years old, carved in the stone at the top of the rock. The only downside: the eyes and navel were no longer made of the original gemstones. They disappeared during the reign of the Khmer Rouge or in the period thereafter. It's a shame how much culture in Cambodia has been destroyed by the greed of individuals, but it's no different in the rest of the world. We stocked up on fresh waffles at a street food stand and made our way down to the waterfall through papaya, mango, banana, eggplant, dragon fruit, lychee, and whatever-they-are-called trees. Okay, it was the best one we've seen so far. Unfortunately, it was a bit crowded, but not too cold. It was enough for a short splash. We spent the return trip half asleep, passing through the ruins of Angkor. It's still cool. We showered at our accommodation and took a tuk-tuk to the entertainment district. The great thing about Asian countries is that they all try to outdo each other in price. In Cambodia, you only pay about half compared to Bangkok. However, you should avoid pizza, they use something else instead of tomato sauce. Stuffed and happy, we went to bed. Tomorrow we're heading to Sihanoukville, which is about 300 km away, and then continuing to Koh Rong by speedboat.

. Finally, the sea, it's supposed to be a dream. We will see.
