Tag 64: Noumea - Capital of New Caledonia

Avaldatud: 28.12.2022

Nouméa is the capital of the French overseas territory of New Caledonia. It is located on a 10-kilometer-long peninsula on the southwest coast of the main island of Grande Terre. Today, around 100,000 people live in the city, which was founded in 1854 as Port-de-France.

To the southwest of the city center are the two beautiful beaches Baie des Citrons and Baie de l'Anse Vata, which are also popular with locals.

We take the hop-on hop-off bus for ten dollars, which takes us along the coast to the south to Anse Vata Beach. We get off there and walk back leisurely. I take a swim at Baie des Citrons. White sand, warm water, wonderful. The path is much longer than expected. We have some steep slopes and the weather is getting more humid. That's why we have to recharge our energy in a café with coffee, cola, and cake. We buy some snacks at the supermarket right at the harbor. There should be free Wi-Fi in the departure hall, but it doesn't work due to overload. All in all, we really like the city; the French influence is unmistakable.
