After a good night's sleep and some breakfast it is another day of walking ahead, this time in the southern part Purnululu National Park (The Bungle Bungles). The main walk was to Whip Snake Gorge, but with on the way there and back some worthwhile detours.
First detour from the Whip Snake Gorge walk leads to the Piccaninny Creek Lookout. It gives some nice views in the morning of the Bungle Bungles, so it is worth the few extra kilometers, although not double if you miss the diversion because the sign is only visible if you turn around...
The next diversion is easy to find and just a short walk to the sight: The Window, the name already giving the information what to see
Then it is another few kilometers in the hot sun through the creek till you reach Whip Snake Gorge. There is supposed to be a permanent all year round pool, but no water left.
After walking back through the dry creek, there are two more detours before returning to the car park: Cathedral Gorge is a walk including some climbing over rocks to not have to walk through dirt water and ends in a round overhanging, shady gorge with a tiny water pool left.
The other even shorter walk is the popular The Domes walk, which after all the spectacular views before do not add too much. Nevertheless, it was a nice photo stop at the diversion for Stuart to say goodbye to the Bungle Bungles.
After a nice cold shower and a bit of a rest, we wanted to return to the Kungkalanayi Lookout for sunset views. Unfortunately, our left back tire decided it is time to give up... Well, another 45min later, first tire change at all and were hitting the road again and made it just in time for the lovely sunset being even better due to the few clouds coming up. Dinner was more than appreciated after that stressful tire change...
