So, here in San Pedro you now have the choice between mass tourism, for example the package offer: all sights in 5 days at a price, 15 tourists (mostly Chileans), one bus, 2 half-motivated guides (Chileans) - or - the 'luxury' option: one sight at the price of 5, 6 tourists (all foreigners), one jeep, one motivated foreign guide. We simply tried both and can't really decide which one we like better or if discovering on our own (more expensive rental car) would have been the better choice after all!? However, in order to find alternatives to the usual program, you first need the connection. If you wanted to do something really special: climbing a 5,000 with a private guide for little money would have also been possible. But it is already an impressive and beautiful landscape. (It is being totally marketed here) . So we have been at over 4000 meters for the last two days and have seen lagoons, flamingos, geysers, vicunas, llamas, salt flats, cacti and simply many beautiful mountains, plains, volcanoes,... The days always started at 6 a.m. and the constantly changing light on the constantly changing landscape was really beautiful. We drank a lot of coca tea and coped well with the altitude. But in the evenings we were/are always exhausted! Tomorrow, however, we will only be heading to Valle de la Luna in the afternoon to watch the sunset (with 1000 others) 😉
