These are two pictures from the Recepciones, which could be described as a combination of a graduation ceremony and a farewell party. These are huge celebrations with up to 30 guests per graduate, which sometimes means up to 3000 guests, and that's just in the relatively small town where I live!

The usual procedure is as follows: First, there are the diplomas, everyone gets a walkout on stage with a song of their choice and some pictures on the stage. Then there is dinner until midnight with fewer guests, then the rest arrives and then we 'dance' until five in the morning. It's just difficult to breakdance on a dance floor with 1000 slightly intoxicated teenagers ;)

Here's another picture that better captures the dimensions of the river. Here, in Corrientes, with a width of two kilometers (!), the river is not only unbelievably wide but also deep, normally around twelve meters at this point, but sometimes up to 28 meters (!). There is an incredible amount of water. The picture shows the only bridge for at least 500 kilometers in both directions, as I said, in Corrientes. The sunsets here in Argentina are also incredible, really colorful every time.

As I mentioned before, we spent an afternoon on the boat, drinking tea, swimming in the water, and water skiing. It was a wonderful experience, although you shouldn't forget the sunscreen. In this picture, I'm in the slightly brownish water with my host brother, wonderfully warm by the way.

Buenos Aires, an incredibly large city, the capital of Argentina. Here in the center, more or less clearly visible, is the Obelisk, a central monument.

Here you can see the Argentine Congress in the government district. The architectural styles generally resemble Spanish, English, and Italian architecture of the 17th century.

'La Casa Rosada' is the presidential palace, similar to the White House. Personally, I like it better than the White House, even if the garden isn't so overwhelming, as the 'pink house' is located in the middle of the government district near the harbor in the center of Buenos Aires.

As I have mentioned before, sports are very important and competitive here. However, I decided against soccer and found a handball team here, the 'Pumas' - great people, but also very competitive.

After the quarterfinals (!), people in the neighboring town gathered to celebrate together after the game. Every time, impressive crowds of people.

During the final, I wasn't with my family, but at the halftime orientation of my exchange organization in Corrientes. It was still very impressive. Our Argentine guides really suffered during the very exciting final and eventually started praying. When it was over, there was a lot of crying and hugging, it was THE topic for weeks. Then we jumped into the pool fully clothed.

To bring some German culture here, I persuaded myself to bake some cookies. They were very well received, even though the improvised vanilla crescent cookies were slightly burnt.

We had an Asado, with some sweet-savory rolls and salads. An Asado includes a bit of pork and, from the cow, stomach, anus, and ribs. But the organs are not mandatory. However, it was a very nice celebration with the family, although it is still normal to go out and celebrate with friends until two o'clock. It was a really impressive experience to experience Christmas at 35 degrees Celsius on the other side of the world.

But what was really nice was the Christmas lighting of the city, set up two months earlier. In the picture, everything was lit up for the first time with a small light show.

Altogether, it has a really nice effect. In the background, you can also see palm trees decorated with LEDs and a ball with a gift ribbon. For me, it was a bit difficult to get into the Christmas vibes, but it was very impressive to experience the holidays in a different way.

Christmas with 38 degrees Celsius, Christmas trees are a bit difficult here because Nordmann firs simply don't want to grow here. Many people use plastic trees, but that looks rather sad.

Hello from Argentina 2023!
So much time has passed and now, as I approach the halfway point of my exchange year, I finally took the time to put together some pictures and tell a little bit about how things are going here. All in all, I can say that I'm doing better, but a lot has happened. In the meantime, I visited Buenos Aires, changed host families, and oh, there was also Christmas and not to forget the absolutely crazy World Cup.

Just a quick update on my host family: As I mentioned before, my previous host family was expecting a baby. So there was always the possibility of a change. About a month ago, it became clear that it wouldn't work out, simply because the house would become too small. We talked to YFU and a few days later, one of my friends, who was already one of my best friends at the time, wrote to me saying that he and his family would be happy to host me. I was thrilled about that! We talked to my YFU delegates again and four days later, it happened. Now I'm with my new family and it's really great! We have already been to Buenos Aires and the pool is always pleasant at 40 degrees Celsius. However, I do miss my previous host family, I spent an incredible and very educational time there.

Tomorrow I'm going on a little vacation to Brazil, to the beach, and afterwards we will even visit the Iguazu Falls. I'm slightly excited.

Note: To be honest, I'm already slightly tanned again from Brazil, but I'll tell you about that another time!
