15.4. Our travel day starts at 6:30 a.m. Carlos picks us up on time with his taxi. Everything goes smoothly at the airport and we quickly make it to the gate. We pass the time on the plane by watching movies. Once we arrive in Houston, we don't even have to pick up our luggage. We have a 4-hour layover here before continuing to Cabo San Lucas. We grab some food and I have a long phone call with a dear friend. We also take the time to book a hotel or two in Indonesia. The movie marathon continues on the second flight. The view from the window is breathtakingly beautiful - we're excited for the climate change. Once we arrive in Cabo, everything goes smoothly here as well and we breeze through all the checkpoints. After asking around a bit, we walk to Terminal 1 to catch the public bus to the city. We're a bit late, the bus is already passing us by... but as often happens in South American countries, a wave is all it takes and the driver stops right in the middle of the road to let us on - so easy! It's now 9:00 p.m. and we're feeling a bit tired from the journey. We take a taxi for the last short stretch and finally arrive at our destination after 16 hours. We head out for dinner and end up at Guacamayos on a recommendation: traditional Mexican cuisine. Finally, we can enjoy Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, bean dip, Cheladas, and Tacos again! We savor the flavors and toast to a successful day of travel! 16.4. Our bodies are still adjusting to Panama, so we wake up early. After breakfast at the hostel, we set out to find a dive center. We find one on the first try: reasonable prices and a friendly-looking center with good equipment. With that task taken care of faster than expected, we stroll to the harbor. Cabo is very touristy, but still charming, for example, there are no huge hotel buildings. We're approached every 3 meters along the promenade to go on boat trips. Spontaneously, we decide to take a 45-minute tour. It takes us to the sights of the bay: Pelican Rock, Piedra de Scooby-Doo (that's really what it's called!), Lover's Beach and Divorce Beach, sea lions,... By now it's gotten hot and after a quick sunscreen stop at the hostel, we continue exploring the town. Cabo has its own brewery, so off we go to taste their house beers with a little ceviche. Now the tiredness from yesterday's journey is slowly kicking in and we leisurely walk back to the hostel for a siesta. We only wake up again around 6:00 p.m. For dinner, we end up back at Los Guacamayos - it's just too delicious and affordable. The quesadillas and the fajita are also excellent. Although we have a better handle on ordering quantities today than yesterday, we end up going back completely stuffed. We're excited for tomorrow. 17.4. After a strong coffee and almond croissants, we meet our guide and other guests from Switzerland at the dive shop. After trying on the equipment, we walk to the harbor before taking the boat to Pelican Rock, our first dive site. There are many pufferfish, an eel, and a guitarfish to admire. The water is slightly colder than in Panama, but our 7mm wetsuits protect us from the cold. We do the second dive at Land's End where we not only see many rays but also hear the whales sing, wonderful! But now we're getting cold and looking forward to some restful hours on land. After enjoying some wonderful sushi right next to our hostel, we take some time out as diving has really exhausted both of us. We end the evening with fruit juice and a taco de pastor with pineapple, cheese, and coriander.
