An Outing

Avaldatud: 12.08.2024

Today we set out to visit Mary and Jude's grandmother. She lives in the Kayunga district far outside.

First, a detour to the school, and we captured everything on camera so you can get an idea of it soon.

Then we traveled westward over the Nile bridge at the Isimba Dam. A surprisingly good new road all the way to Kayunga. After that, it turned into a dirt road that gradually became worse. We saw birds and some cows coming towards us. We were told that the best pineapples grow here.

When we arrived in the village, we went to the grandmother's hut. People had gathered in the village to mourn a child who had recently passed away. Thus, joy of reunion and grief took place closely together. There was food, and we learned that guests never eat together with the host. The guests should have peace and not be frightened. Muslims and Christians live together in the village. We brought two solar lamps and sugar for the grandmother. She was so happy about our visit. We were the first non-Africans in the village. Upon departure, we were presented with gifts. A bunch of matooke and a live rooster. We were quite astonished. Of course, we didn't know what to do with it and passed it on to Jude for the village.
