On December 31st, I still felt some aftereffects from the previous day. Dragged myself out of bed for breakfast and then fell back in afterwards.
In the afternoon, I went for a walk to the highest point of the village, but the view was heavily obstructed by construction fences and radio masts. My plans for the day were not grand, the only special thing was that it was the first day I wasn't cycling. I started watching the series 'Dark' on Netflix and only planned to go out for dinner in the evening.
After dinner at the neighboring hotel, I was invited to karaoke by a group. It was similar to the day before, a mix of family members and their companions celebrating together in a larger group. I participated in making rice cakes and contributed 'It's My Life' to the evening entertainment. However, the group disbanded after the fireworks for the children at 10 o'clock. It was fine for me, as I had another tour ahead of me. So back to the Netflix plan. But on the way, a more festive group invited me to join them... So this time, my part was 'Uptown Girl,' and I was enthusiastically celebrated for it. This had less to do with my heartwarming voice than with the group's increased alcohol consumption. I could, of course, help myself to the food and got a freshly prepared coffee from a barista. There was tea that must have cost a fortune, and I was given 5 oranges as a gift. Since parts of the family had seen me cycling the day before, one of them gave me a scarf so that I wouldn't be too cold.
This group disbanded shortly after midnight. And I went to bed around half past 12, alcohol-free. It was a nice and unspectacular evening, during which I frequently found myself thinking about my last stage.
