We spent our last night in New Zealand in a small apartment on Waiheke. Surrounded by ferns and bushes, it felt like sleeping in a treehouse in the rainforest.
After breakfast, we quickly bought some gifts and then took the ferry back to Auckland on time.
We cleaned the bus briefly, packed our suitcases, and then drove to the car rental return location. We were chauffeured to the airport without any hassle. We had plenty of time as our flight didn't depart until 8:30 PM.
After almost 17 hours of flying, we landed in Dubai, the whole time in the dark. If we ever fly via Dubai again, we will definitely choose a daytime flight.
In Dubai itself, we had to change terminals. We took the bus from Terminal C to Terminal A in 20 minutes. The airport is truly huge. However, the remaining 6-hour flight went by quickly, and we were able to safely hand Leo over to his mother's arms. We stayed overnight at Leo's home for one more night and then finished the rest of the journey to Dresden on Sunday, almost numb from sitting for half the distance.
When we arrived home, we realized: it's beautiful here too! :-)
