In late July, I visited the capital of France, Paris. It is often claimed that Paris has many little streets with countless cafés, and that is actually true. Brasserien can be found everywhere. The most beautiful place for that is probably Montmartre in the artist district of Paris.
●Montmartre:
There you can also watch the street artist as he finishes his next painting. At the top of the hill, there is not only the famous church 'Sacré coeur', but you also have an incredible view of the city! But before you go up, you can also visit the famous 'Moulin Rouge'. The Red Mill can be recognized immediately and is perfectly located in the same district.
《Admission》You can get in completely for free. You only have to pay 6€ for the ascent, which is not necessary because the stairs in front of the church offer an equally good view.
●Notre Dame de Paris:
The most famous church in the whole city and in all of France is located on 'île de la Cité', because Paris has a small island in its center.
A visit is definitely worth it, even if the ascent is not as spectacular as the queue suggests, the view is still impressive from below. Besides, you are right next to the second largest museum in the world: the Louvre.
《Admission》Here, too, admission is free and only the ascent costs something. If you are staying longer than 5 days, you can consider it, otherwise simply marvel from below and inside.
●Le Louvre:
Who doesn't know it? The Glass Pyramid under which a huge structure hides. The descriptions for the famous paintings like Mona Lisa are signposted and easy to find. You can spend forever here if you are interested in art, otherwise an hour is enough for the most important things.
《Admission》It is hard to believe, but here too admission is not only free for under 26 year olds, but you can also go directly to the Fast Line without waiting. For those over 26, I recommend reserving a ticket in advance and also getting in without waiting. Especially on weekends, this is worthwhile.
●Arc de Triomphe:
They exist everywhere, in every country. The Brandenburg Gate is a synonym. But still, this triumphal arch is worth a visit. In the middle of the largest roundabout in Paris in front of the Champs Élysée is a huge arch.
《Admission》The best part? For just 5€ for under 26 and 8€ for over 26, you can go up high and have a wonderful view.
●Catacombs:
Do you want to experience Paris again right away? No problem! Directly under Paris, there is a tunnel system that extends throughout the entire city. It was built during the time of the plague and many other diseases. Due to the high death rate, there was no more space on the surface for cemeteries. So, the tunnel system, which was originally used for stone mining, was used. Today, you can admire thousands of bones here. The entire walls consist only of meter-long bones and skulls.
《Admission》Buy tickets without waiting! These are more expensive and cost 22€, but if that's too much, you can pay only 8€ but you have to wait for at least 3 hours beforehand. And that's in any weather. Also, don't forget your sweater, because it's exactly 14 degrees down there.
●Palace of Versailles:
It's a bit outside the city, but both the Hall of Mirrors and the gardens are breathtaking...
I recommend a Saturday evening with a reservation. Why? Every Saturday, the gardens are accompanied by music and a light show in every fountain. This is where the term City of Love becomes clear, because it can't get more romantic than this. The fireworks start at 10:00. But it's not just any small fireworks. No, it's a huge one, including a fire show!
《Admission》If you want to have the music with the light show and the fireworks at the end, you have to pay 22€. But it's definitely worth it! I haven't seen such a spectacle in any other palace so far.
●Eiffel Tower:
Now to the most famous 'building' in France. THE landmark of Paris. The Eiffel Tower is illuminated and sparkles every hour. Here too, you should use the stairs because it saves you the waiting and besides, the feeling is just nicer. Since I have also been up by elevator, I can tell you, it's absolutely not worth it! At the top, there is Gustav Eiffel's famous secret room. Did you know that the Eiffel Tower was originally supposed to be dismantled again and the Parisians didn't even want it?
《Admission》To walk all the way up, it costs 8€ and the last floor is already included with the elevator
All in all, I can only recommend Paris to you. The City of Love lives up to its name and captures everyone. Eat in the little streets, also visit the big department stores, and see two completely different worlds.
