Day 6&7: Les Houches

Eldonita: 27.07.2019

On this Friday, July 26th, we went to Les Houches! Off to the mountains! It was amazing how quickly we were from Paris near Geneva... the TGV was fast. Our first one-hour stop was in Bellegarde: A small sleepy town with a state-of-the-art train station, 10 hair salons, 3 butcher shops, and restaurants that only opened in the evening. If you want to look good every day and like to eat meat, you will find your paradise here! By the way, some shops were empty... so if you want to offer something new in Bellegarde, you will certainly be successful there!

After the ride with a French regional express train, our third and last train was a small mountain train that slowly made its way up, even along steep slopes. It started raining and thundering along the way. In Bellegarde, we were still sweating a lot, but now it was sweater time on the train. And as the little train made its way, the moment came when snow-covered mountain peaks appeared to us for the first time!! Very cool and impressive! When we arrived in Les Houches, we could gaze over the Mont Blanc massif. Despite the rain, these were great impressions of the highest mountain in Europe, although we couldn't see the actual summit due to the cloudy sky.

On Saturday, we overslept breakfast... (Of all things, the breakfast buffet!! Janina was very sad) The last few days in the high temperatures were also really exhausting. Since it stayed rainy until early afternoon, we had plenty of time to do our laundry. After that, we went to the center of Les Houches in dry weather. Our hotel, the RockyPop, which is highly recommended, was quite far north of the city center. We had breakfast later and checked out the cable car that was going to take us about 800 meters in altitude the next day. Having a beer with a great view of the mountains made our evening enjoyable, which we let end quietly, because starting from tomorrow Sunday, it's over with sleeping in and strolling around. Then it's time for hiking, ready, go! :)))
