Day 3: Mohawk Trail - Green Mountain - Ben and Jerry's Factory in Waterbury - White River Junction

Eldonita: 30.09.2017

Summary of today: Forest and ice cream 😊 So a perfect day 😊
I had researched on the internet for the best routes to see the fall foliage. You can find tons of information on the internet. Those who hunt or chase the Indian Summers are called 'Leaf Peepers' 😊 So I first drove north to Greenfield, then the so-called Mohawk Trail and then north along Vermont Route 100. It was raining all day and with all the deciduous trees, it was really autumnal. Unfortunately, the fall foliage was not so advanced yet, most of the trees were green or brown, with a few red ones scattered about. But no problem, now I know where the best spots are, I can always come back 😊
After about 4 hours, I had a delicious shrimp quesadilla in Chester and on the recommendation of the waitress, I had a warm apple cider with cinnamon (without alcohol of course 😊)
It was perfect for the autumn weather. I was quite tired and took a nap in the car, which worked wonders! After that, I was fit again and decided to drive another 1 hour 40 minutes to Waterbury instead of going to the hotel (it was still too early to check in at 2 p.m. anyway...), where the Ben and Jerry's factory is located 😊😊 Despite the recent scandal news - pesticides in Ben and Jerry's ice cream - I'm just an incurable sweet tooth #sorrynotsosorry 😊 The factory tour was very popular, hundreds of people were lining up to get in and to the ice cream stand. At the end, you would receive a sample of 'Totally Baked', which I had already taken a bite out of when I took the photo 😊
Around 6 p.m., I checked into my hotel in White River Junction and soon went to sleep. Driving makes you tired 😊 I have never driven so much in one day in my life (7 hours), now I am experienced in road trips 😊 (next road trip destination in 2018: Neuschwanstein Castle and Chiemsee 😊) The hotel, as you can see in the pictures, was quite creepy, it's like everything here has been frozen in time for 250 years, because that's how old the town is. The hotel has been around since 1849 and it looked like it 🙈 There were even museum exhibits. It somehow belongs to the HI Hostel chain, but it's a hotel. That's why I even came across it 😊 But it's only for a few hours. Even the people I saw on the street look like they're from a movie from the time of the Civil War with Lincoln beards and hats... I guess I really landed in the middle of nowhere 😊 And it's cold, 12 degrees!
Tomorrow I will drive through the White Mountains and then head back towards the coast.
