The north, south, and west of La Digue have already been explored, so today we will be visiting the east. For this, we will need to ride across the island, which involves a lot of ups and downs, so it can be a bit sweaty. But there's nothing better than enjoying the cool breeze while going downhill after struggling uphill.
Finally, we arrive at 'Grand Anse', a beautiful bay that is not suitable for swimming due to strong waves, so we can only explore it on land. Here we witness yet another wedding ceremony - the third one we have seen so far.
From Grand Anse, there is a steep hiking trail through the 'forest' that leads to Petit Anse, which is no less impressive than its big sister. However, it is a bit quieter here, which is understandable as it is not as easily accessible.
To reach the third bay, 'Anse Coco', which is the last one on today's itinerary, we need to hike for another 30-40 minutes. It can be a bit sweaty, especially due to the high humidity, but once we reach Anse Coco, the journey quickly becomes forgotten. First, we treat ourselves to a delicious mango juice, freshly blended and absolutely tasty. We enjoy the juice on two loungers that are standing lonely on the beach, seemingly waiting for tired hikers like us. At one end of the bay, there is also a small saltwater pool where you can supposedly snorkel, as the juice vendor tells us. But when we arrive there, it's low tide, so the pool is only a photo opportunity for us.
Then, we have the whole way back ahead of us, but it somehow feels shorter than the way there, probably thanks to the 'mango fuel' we just got.
From 'Grand Anse', we ride the bikes back towards home - where we take a little break for the first time since arriving on La Digue before I head out for a swim.
This time, we watch the sunset on the beach before cooking a delicious dinner and enjoying a cozy evening.
