Koh Samui - 04.26.19

Eldonita: 27.04.2019

It's unbelievable that today was already the last day on Koh Samui. Tomorrow I will fly to Bangkok, which means the end of my trip and my return flight to Frankfurt is getting closer. My loved ones at home can start mentally preparing for my return. Since I have a tight sightseeing schedule for three more days in Bangkok, I decided to enjoy pure relaxation on a sun lounger on my last day. My book still has a few more pages left. How convenient that the last evening falls on a Friday, because Friday evenings are always the biggest street market on the island in Fisherman's Village. Since I still want to go there tonight to conclude my time on Koh Samui, I got up relatively early today to go straight to the sun lounger after breakfast. Today, although warm like the past few days, the sun isn't as scorching. After yesterday's boat trip with lots of sun, I think that's not a bad thing. I went to Fisherman's Village again with my German acquaintances from my hotel. To avoid the 'high' taxi costs for only one way, we took our free hotel shuttle there. Since tourists and locals from all parts of the island flock to Fisherman's Village on Friday evenings, there is more traffic than usual. That's why our shuttle already left at 4 p.m., which meant we were already in Fisherman's Village by half past four. Since the market only opened at 6 p.m., we passed the time with a delicious cocktail, in my case a Pina Colada, with a great view of the beach and the sea. Wonderful, perfect for a last evening! From 6 p.m., the alleyways filled up and the crowds pushed their way along the stalls. There were stalls with textiles, souvenirs, a lot of stuff that no one actually needs, and countless stalls with food and drinks. I had made up my mind to eat the dessert that is unique to Thailand tonight, 'Mango Sticky Rice'. I simply let myself be inspired by the stalls when it came to the culinary offerings, so I started with shrimp tails, then had the classic Thai noodle dish, Pad Thai, and finally, as planned, 'Mango Sticky Rice'. Everything tasted really delicious and the portions you got at the stalls were sufficient. Underneath the 'Mango Sticky Rice', you have to imagine a sweet sticky rice served with fresh mango and topped with warm coconut milk at the end. It was tasty and very filling, but since I'm also not a fan of rice pudding, it won't become my new favorite dish. But when you're in Thailand, you have to try it. After we were full, completely sweaty, and satisfied with our purchases, we looked for a taxi that would take us to our hotel for a fixed price. Now it was time for me to say goodbye to my new acquaintances, because I would fly to Bangkok the next day and the two of them still had a few more days on Koh Samui.

For me, this evening just meant packing my suitcase.
