Hello Germany! (08/14)

Eldonita: 14.08.2016

Now home is almost within reach. Since Thursday, we are back in the Federal Republic of Germany, more precisely in the North. First, we visited Flensburg for a delicious fish sandwich and a cup of coffee. Then we found a campground near the city (finally affordable again). There, we spent our last night in the tent, which brought some joy but also sadness. Since it was the last time setting up the tent, we thought we could do it blindly, in the dark... That was definitely not the case as you can see in the picture. The tent poles bent by the strong wind didn't make this task any easier. We spent the evening with a new record amount of pasta, good German beer, and two lively Norwegian families in the campground's common room. The next day, we made the short trip to Piet's aunt in Ratzeburg. By the way, this is also the base of the recently successful German rowers. Here, too, we were and are supplied with delicious food, especially the meat and the lavish breakfast brought us great joy. We also had a great time with Jonathan (the youngest of the family), who visited us with his parents for a day. Yesterday, we visited the last city destination. We made a day trip to the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. This trip, like all our city visits, was quite spontaneous, but we can say that we had another beautiful day! Paul's older brother joined us with a friend, and we negotiated a harbor tour from €18 down to €10. So we sailed for an hour on the Elbe and received some interesting information from the medium-humorous captain. For example, that one of the largest container ships in the harbor can hold 16,000 containers weighing 30 tons each, and the price of the Elbphilharmonie has increased tenfold. After a cup of coffee, or alternatively a hot milk with honey, our paths separated again. In the evening, we had a lot of delicious meat again. Today, on our last day, we have another great program ahead of us. We will report in the next and final post...
