Strengthened with a typical breakfast - Gallo Pinto and scrambled eggs (beans & rice) ... we decided not to visit the obligatory waterfall of La Fortuna ... we set off towards Arenal Volcano National Park. The road there is spectacular - the purest massage. It has rained frequently today, but you hardly get wet here ... like a fine, warm mist.
During the hike there (6 km), we walked over a cooled lava flow. We had a beautiful view of Lake Arenal. Further past flora and fauna, we came across the first giant tree. We hadn't expected that here.
After this beautiful hike, we still had plenty of time. So we headed to Arenal 1968. Another 4 km walk, this path led us past the places where the eruption in 1968 surprised and overwhelmed 3 villages.
As if that wasn't enough, tonight we were scheduled to visit a finca with Don Otto and Doña Maria, including a night hike ... so we put our hiking boots back on and off we went!
After a short welcome, we started the photo hunt for nocturnal creatures. Our catch was an iguana and many different pretty frogs. The blue jeans frog is a little blurry, but it's so cute...
Finally, we enjoyed a delicious dinner on the terrace.
What happened after our return .... read it for yourself.
