Monkey Mia is on the itinerary today.
Fortunately, we were able to sleep an extra hour and we departed at 7am.
About half an hour later, we arrived at the beautiful bright beach of Monkey Mia. Here, I experienced something that you don't get to experience very often. A young lady explained a few things about Monkey Mia to us and then went into the water with us. I stood in the water up to my ankles and then the dorsal fins of dolphins appeared in the bay. When I stood in the water up to my knees and the dolphins swam past my legs, it was somehow strange but also very cool.
I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity. With a little courage, I even got to touch one of them.
Swimming with dolphins - Check
When I returned to the beach, there were already the next fellow creatures waiting for me. I'm talking about pelicans. They have funny big yellow bulging eyes and are always looking for fish. From here, we slowly made our way back to our accommodation where we refueled for the rest of the day.
Then we drove for about 1 1/2 hours to Shell Beach. A beautiful white beach. Absolute balm for the soul. From here, we continued for 2 1/2 hours on the road to our first rest stop. Along the way, our air conditioning stopped working - oh my god, it became a hot box.
After a short stop, we continued with air conditioning.
From 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm, we drove through the outback. Unfortunately, the air conditioning kept failing and we had to constantly get new crushed ice to cool down.
The highest temperature was 47 degrees!
Shortly after 6:30 pm, we finally arrived at Coral Bay, where we also have our accommodation. In addition, we will celebrate the new year here at the beach with a beach party.
At this point, I also want to wish you all a Happy New Year.
