Unwanted Dumpsite

Eldonita: 10.10.2023

In September we always go to places around Cebu City to pray on Wednesdays. Among other things, we were at a garbage dump (Inayawan Dumpsite), or rather "garbage city". The people who live here make a living by sorting the garbage and making a living from the usable leftovers - impressive and sad at the same time! What was impressive was that people here really use everything that is useful for something. Also that they can endure the smell (I was very happy that my nose still had the after-effects of a cold) and the circumstances and still build their oases, such as a church (a slightly larger fortified room). I was particularly sad about the children who have to grow up in these conditions. We both notice that we are particularly touched by the very small children, probably because of our own role as parents. Your own heart almost breaks at these sights.

In the middle of Garbage City is a Christian ministry called Provision. We spontaneously visited this too. Here the children of the families living in the surrounding area have the opportunity to go to a kind of kindergarten and preschool/primary school. It seemed to us like another little oasis in the middle of the garbage.
