Once again, we arrived at our new camping site around 4 pm, which is right on the border with Angola ⛺️. That means we are in the very north of Namibia. Super super beautiful, located right on the Cubango River, but unfortunately, it's raining again. Hello rainy season! It confronts and accompanies us with all its might.
The guides have set up the tents for us, and we got ready to embark on a short one-hour boat tour despite the rain. Luckily, it stayed mostly dry during the hour, and even though the sky was very dark and cloudy, the boat tour was absolutely beautiful. Due to the bad weather, Lena treated all of us to a bottle of gin, which lifted the mood even more 😉 When we returned, dinner, a beautifully set table, and a campfire were already prepared. The food was once again very good. Afterwards, I fought for the shower and then went straight to bed in the tent and listened to nature. Birds, frogs, crickets... it's impressive how loud the nature is here.
Currently, we are in a high-risk area for malaria. However, I am taking prophylaxis and so far, I am tolerating it well. But I have only been taking it for two days.
Unfortunately, the night in the tent was very wet. Our tent was not completely waterproof, and since it rained all night, not everything stayed dry. Our breakfast was also wet, but we are making the best of the weather. The guides keep reminding us how important the rain is for the country, and it is also very impressive to see how green Namibia can be. But of course, that is only a small consolation.
Today, we are driving another 250 km east to Divundu, where we will stay for two nights. Some of us have decided to "upgrade" and not camp for these two nights, but instead sleep in smaller houses/lodges. It's not cheap, but here in Namibia, I am also learning to set aside my thriftiness, treat myself and enjoy life.
I am excited about our accommodation and really hope that the sun will show itself for once.
With love ❤️
