The visit to the "kurligen" Dr. René Francoz in his bizarre decorated emergency practice confirmed by X-ray that Ignaz's right kneecap is broken. Therefore, surgery is mandatory and the journey home is imminent. Everything necessary will be organized with REGA. A car will pick us up on Tuesday morning at 9.30 a.m. coming from Valais, in Pralognan, and then take Ignaz directly to Bürgerspital Solothurn.
Unfortunately, this is the end of our journey into retirement, which started so well, after about one-third of the Grande Traversée des Alpes unexpectedly and in an unexpected way. We were good companions on the way, in surprisingly good physical condition, steadily making progress, also enjoyed the sometimes slightly peculiar fellow hikers - maybe we were seen as such - and would have arrived in Briançon in about four daily stages, the larger Alpine city in the middle of our route. Well, no reason to lament fate. It is what it is. There will be new opportunities for such adventures again, and maybe we will continue this hike next year.

Jammerschade. Aber leider muss man mit sowas auch immer rechnen. Ein Abbruch wegen einer Verletzung ist aber doch fast der worst case - mieses Wetter und überfüllte Hütten sind da nicht mal halb so wild. Jetzt hoffe ich, ihr erholt euch gut und geniesst eure Erinnerungen. Nächstes Jahr kann es ja wieder weiter gehen. Und vorher sehen wir uns entweder in Deitingen oder in Biel!David
