Tag 125 - International Women's Day

Have you thought about it? Ladies, have you been congratulated? I have, twice even. However, the congratulations came only from women.

Here in Granada, there was a parade with drum and dance groups and an event in the city center. Women are theoretically equal. There are even laws that are supposed to protect women. But the implementation is lacking a bit. In the police station where a woman flees from domestic violence, there are also men... That's what one of the Spanish teachers told me. Macholand, as they say.

Many men participated in the parade as well. Including this super cute...(Photo 2). He dares to be himself. Being gay is also not safe in Nicaragua.

During an evening walk today, I happened to meet Carla. She was with her youngest daughter. Her daughter also approaches potential customers to sell her products. She is no more than 8 years old. Business is currently not going well, Carla is hoping for the weeks around Easter when more tourists come. It's actually strange: she is one of those street vendors (Note: no gender-neutral wording on International Women's Day!) that I sometimes find, uh, challenging. Every thing has more than one side.

Weather like yesterday, only hotter.
