Monday, February 10th, a trip to Nelson

Eldonita: 10.02.2020

Today we took a trip to Nelson. It is a colorful city known for its art and culture. We also know that the Pattens plan to live here when they return to New Zealand in 2022. We took a photo of a property sign next to our parking lot and sent it to them. They get quite homesick when they follow our blog.

Nelson is very compact and similar to the smaller towns here. We walk through a small pedestrian zone to the entrance of the cathedral with beautiful windows and on the way back to Trafalgar Street we see a remarkable wall or jungle painting and a bust of Mr. Eelco Boswick, who had a special meaning for Nelson (http://www.theprow.org.nz/people/eelco-boswijk/#Main_content) and still has an impact (http://www.nelson.govt.nz/services/community/eelco-boswijk-civic-awards-2019/).

We continue to stroll and arrive at the Queens Gardens - they really have a knack for creating and maintaining parks here - and stop by the Suter Art Gallery where we have a small snack in the cafe and then unfortunately have to make our way back.

On the way to Kaiteriteri, we pass by the peaceful harbor of Mapua and visit the informative harbor museum.

And to finish off our trip to Nelson, we have 'Ice with real Fruits', very delicious, and very big! And very important:

'Please hold Ice Creams upright!' ;-)

Now that we have arrived in Kaiteriteri, we need to empty our car because we will be returning it tomorrow in Picton and take the ferry through the Marlborough Sounds across Cook Strait to Wellington, where we will stay for 2 nights.
